Sound card issue

I am having an issue with my sound card. There are two jacks for a microphone on my system one is in the front of my PC and the other is in the back, however right now it seems that the only one that's working is the one in front. I am recording my voice with Windows sound recorder. Would anyone have any idea what is wrong? Is this a software or hardware issue?

The one on the back is probably a separate sound device. Double click on the volume control icon in your system tray to bring up the volume control. In one of the menus (may be specific to your sound card) you should see "options", and in there you should be able to select the recording device. Try switching it if there are multiple ones listed.
