Chase, been thinkin'... (yeah, it happens once or twice a year and this is it!) Why not have a Spam Forum so people that like to spam do it as much as they want. One thing though, it should have a system (hidden, of course) of penalizing the number of Spam posts, something like getting the worth of one regular post for every fifty spam posts.

Seriously though... So much spam-o-rama going around lately. Just like this!

    I'm done ranting... for now.

I thought that was the point of Off Topic.... coz it isn't related to photography, so ya can talk about anything.

Or are you talkin about actually commercial spam that comes in?

I would say that spam, by definition, is talking about nothing...

I think spam is more about the fact that it's unwelcome or unsolicited. The off-topic forum is there for people to chat about other things instead of photography - not advertise "male enhancement" drugs or fantastic money-making prospects originating from Nigeria.

Creating a spam forum would be self-defeating - spammers are still going to post things like "WOW FREE PHOTOS CLICK HERE NOW TO WIN VIAGRA!!!!!" in the main discussion areas of the forum and they will be removed by the powers that be.

That's one of the less glamourous roles the mods have I suppose.

    Still

I mean people that live on Spam (no pun intended) would have a place to spam.

Errr... that wasn't really spam. It was more of a misunderstanding. It was all sorted out by the mods.

Plus spam comes in cans and has jello in it and is really hard to completely wipe of your screen.

I still don't understand that post (that is, the one Mitica linked to and Hertz said was a misunderstanding)...

A newbie made several posts that came across as spam. They were consequently deleted by a mod. The newbie got upset and thought he'd been unfairly treated. On investigation it turned out that he had misunderstood things and then we had misunderstood his intentions and now it's all sorted.
Things like this happen now and then.
