I've never owned a spotting scope. My wife wants one because every time we go to Yellowstone we inevitably end up at a place where groups have their scopes setup and are watching bears snack on a carcass, wolf pups playing, etc.
I see a Nikon 16-48 x 65 on sale locally for $220 (reg $300) not sure if that's a good deal, a decent scope for a beginner or what to look for.
I want a good beginner scope, not too cheap but not $9,000+ either.
Any tips here at TPF?
