Step-ups

I've got two lenses on the way, one with a 52mm filter size and the other with a 62. Of course buying two sets of filters is a pain, so are step-up rings a good alternative? Haven't heard much about them. Should I even step up to something bigger in case I eventually need bigger filters?

YES! You can step up or down. My RB67 is 77mm and I have an ETRS that takes 62mm and 58mm. I have step ups as well as step downs so I can interchange filters from one to the other.

Yes, they work great. 77mm is a common filter thread for wide angle lenses. The filters are more expensive though. Look around at lenses you might be buying in the future and see what's the biggest size you will likely need, and buy the step up rings for each lens then. The rings are cheap. Only a few dollars.
