Still undecided on purchase...

Yes I remember that. I was in a small beach apartment on St Petes beach. Beautiful sunsets there.

Loved Tampa. Especially Busch Gardens.

I am so over Busch Gardens, next time I go it's STRICTLY photos for me!

Hope the leg's better soon :)

I posted some of this on another guy's thread, but didn't want to hijack it looking for my own answers.

I've sort of made my decision for Nikon vs Canon, but now I am having a tough time between Nikon's products:

Personally, I like the D70s. D70s has a few more options than the D50, and the s supposedly has the better imaging like the D50 does. I like the D40's larger screen, and I doubt I would ever buy a used lens, but I don't like spending the same amount for the SAME product. The D40 also has one less screen than the D50 or Canon, it's missing the LCD on top, but people that use it tell me it's almost BETTER because they can get those graphics on the main screen now, instead of flipping back and forth. I'm of two minds on it.

Here are some numbers:

D70s body for only $465.00

D40 body for only $384.00
http://www.preferredphoto.com/product.asp?id=nkd40

D50 body for only $425.00
http://www.stop4camera.com/Shop/Product.asp?sku=d50

The prices are so close, I don't know what to do.

EDIT: Didn't realize the D70s was much older than the D50. That sort of makes it easier, since the D50 has newer optics.

However the decision between D50 and D40 doesn't get easier with the chart here:

COMPARISON OF THE D50 and D40:

as for the D70 being older... the D40 is newer than the D200, but I dont think you'd go for the newer camera.;)

So I'm stuck. I cannot find a decent enough lens that allows me to purcahse a decent flash, and vice versa. I think, and I am sure I am right, the lens purcahse is more important.

Maybe you can rent a lens or two? If you do, be sure to get them in plenty of time so you can practice and get the feel for them. I've never tried it so I can't vouch for any companies but here are some links:

Personally, I'd rather save the money and buy a lens but if you're in a bind, it could be a good idea. I've also thought about maybe renting to try before buying a specific lens but now I think I have a better idea of what lenses do what so I would feel more confident in my selection. Good luck!

My choices have come down to this:

1. A used Canon 350D with the following:

Canon DIgital Rebel Body (Silver)
Canon 18-55 EF-S II Lens
Sigma 3.5 55-200 Telephoto Lens
Tiffen Filters 52mm Polarizer, UV Protector and Warming Filter 812a to fit the Sigma.
Box and standard accessories.( strap, cables, software, manual, battery, charger.
2 GB Sandisk CF card.

Then I would have to purchase this seperate:
Sigma EF-500 for Canon $149.99
Canon 50mm f1.8 $99.99

For a total of $700.00 plus shipping.

OR

FROM ADORAMA:

D50 REFURBISHED BY NIKON BODY ONLY (90 day warranty): 399.95
EN-EL3A (generic) BATTERY: 19.95
Wireless Remote ML-L3 for D50: 16.95
Tamron 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 $69.95
Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D AF $114.95
Sigma EF-500 DG ST j-TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Nikon $149.99

TOTAL: 771.74 plus shipping
