I'm not brand new to photography, but I am new to selling photos. I was wondering if anyone can give me a definition of a stock photo? What makes a stock photo "stock"? Thanks for any feed back on this.

look on any software or career site.

They are the pictures they have littered over the page, having nothing to actually do with the product. Like a website for a Linux OS will have a pic of some random guy smiling.

So, what your saying is they're pretty much ordinary images of everyday "stuff"? Is that correct?

I look at stock as meaning generic.
