Do a search on the forum - you'll find this topic and some good info. Shutterstock is one of the better companies IMO but they are demanding at times.

I signed with BigStock. Kind of like throwing my images out there as opposed to expecting any kind of return.

I have been with Istock for a couple of months. I'm not good enough yet to upload pictures (except for two :)) ) but being successful in this business seems to be uploading a lot of high quality pictures (has to be over 1600 x 1200, no artifacts, good composision, very little noise, ect.). I plan on getting more uploaded just so that I can make just a little bit of money on the side.

BoblyBill's right. In my opinion, it's not worth the effort unless you are good enough to make money elsewhere if you wanted (weddings, portraits, photojournalism, galleries, etc.). There are places out there now that will take submissions from anyone, but you aren't likely to make any kind of money from them; many of those seriously underpay. I think the stock market is getting rather messed up by these places, and it hurts us photographers in the end.

BigStock is serious. They even make you take a quiz. I am saying that I do not expect to sell to many images. Which is fine. I just like my work to be out there. Now if you want to get serious serious check out Getty or the like.

How does that make them "serious"? After looking at their site and the rates they pay, they look like more of a joke, to me.
