I'm pretty new to photography and the only items I've bought are lens, filters, muslin, stands, props and so on. But nothing as far as off flash or soft boxes etc.

I've read things on how to make your own softbox for lighting and so on and I don't think it would be a problem to do on my own. However, I'm unsure as to what all it does, how the placement goes for what effect, the type of light to use and so on.

Anyone have a good site that explains the use of lighting, the effects, placement of the lights and so on that I could read up on? Like a photo studio lighting for dummies type of thing...

I really love doing inside people photography (which is the original reason I bought my camera to begin with), but yet, it's the WORSE pictures I've been taking...which is due to lighting.
