Can anyone suggest what kit I could use to photograph a human eye? The results would need to be pretty good quality to enable a good 8"x10" print to be made. Also, for the comfort of the sitters, I wouldn't want to be closer than a foot or so from the subject. Also, what flash should I use for even lighting?

The kit will only be used for photographing human eyes and nothing else.

Try a 60mm or 105mm macro and a ring flash. Nikon, Canon and Sigma make both macro lenses and ring flashes. Good results can be had with all.

I wouldn't get anything shorter than 100mm, or else you'll be extremely close to the subject.
