Was this before they closed the road for winter, or did you do the 7 mile hike?
 
Holy Cow that picture just grabs you doesn't it? And the layers of color going on in the background are awesome.
 
Great colors - wow! I've never been to the Smoky Mountains but this makes me add it to my bucket list. I'm wondering how it would look if you cloned out or toned down that sun/hotspot - if at all possible to do it and make it look good? It pulls the eye right up and away from the beautiful scene below.
 
I always recommend going to Clingman's Dome ( the highest point of the Smokies ) when visiting that area. I had to wait for the fog to burn off before anything could be seen when I went since we were above the clouds. It is quite a strenuous hike if one goes all the way to the top of the viewing platform. I know I had to stop a few times before making it lol.
 
@Dean_Gretsch it's also wise to take a buddy who can't run as fast as you in case of bears. That way you only have to outrun your buddy.:allteeth:
