Swamp Thing !

    Raising his head out of the waters of the marsh, this throw back to prehistoric times materialized about 15 feet from where I was standin out in the marsh waiting for some evening photo ops. I estimate this guy was about 24 in. x 18 in. and about 70 lbs. His head here from the tip of his snout to were it enters the water to the right is about 7 in. I actually got a case of the Willies after he disappeared and I lost track of his wake.

    i love these things. they are one of the coolest looking reptiles alive. and unpredictable too. sometimes they're mean as anything and other times you can poke them with a stick and they'll just ignore you and keep suning. i like the detail that shows up on its chin when it's wet.

    I like it too, I think that the detail would have shown through more had you been lucky enough to be on the side that the sun light was coming on. Very cool and mammoth. :)
