here I would appreciate some input from someone who has experience shooting this sport, or perhaps as a competitor?

My main concern is that that the images don't seem sharp enough; I did not want to use a smaller aperture in order to dissipate the backgrounds, which are none too clean. Shooting from a much higher angle was not possible (thus getting the mat as a background) plus the faces are lost. Then there's the budget......
