Which wide lens would be more compatible with a Canon E05 Xsi Rebel:

    Tamron Di or Tamron DiII?

Tamron AF 17-35mm f/2.8-4.0 Di LD SP Aspherical (IF) Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens? Would this be the best I can get for the best price?

Both Di and DiII will works with XSi.

DiII lens are made for DSLR cameras that has a smaller sensor such as the one you have.

Di lens will work on cropped sensor camera and 35mm film/FF camera.

For a cropped body, I like the Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 better.

I'm not familiar with Canon or Tamron, but it seems calling 17mm Ultra Wide Angle is a stretch.

Here's a good place to find independent reviews for that lens.
