Picked up a used Nikkor 80-200mm AF f2.8D lens and was told at Calumet that the Nikon converters wouldn't work with it. Go figure.
Anyone have any suggestions for an off brand? I'm using a D7000.

Thanks in advance..

Looking at the user's manuals for the Nikon TCs, the TC20III can be used on the AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED. Likewise, the 1.4, 1.7 and 2.0II manuals do not exclude the 80-200.

Unless I am misreading something, it looks like you are OK. The user's manual can be downloaded from the support page at nikonusa.com. Note that I don not have either that lens nor TCs

Taken from Ken Rockwell's site...

Nikon makes no autofocus teleconverters which will work with this lens.

The manual-focus TC-200/201 and TC-14A work, with the potential for vignetting.

The TC-14B ought to work fine, also a manual-focus converter.

See Teleconverters for more about these and other teleconverters that work.

Ran across a Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 DG 2X converter over the weekend. It is not the DGX, so some of the EXIF info is ommited, but the optics are the same. New condition $100.
First photo taken with my 50mm, second taken with my 80-200mm (set at 200mm) third, taken with 80-200mm with 2X converter. I'm really impressed with the IM, any comments?

Yep when I bought mine used the guy threw in the Tamron SP 1.4x

The Tamron and Kenko work well. Also belive the Sigma work as well.

Wish I had the 1.7x then as the 1.4x gave me only a 280mm f4 and
would have like to do the moon without a whole lot of cropping.

But heck they still did work with minimum hits in Image IQ and speed.
As moon shot was handheld.
