Teleconverters - looking for opinions

Olcoot, thanks for the feedback.

Does you wife also use a Teleconverter ?

... nice shots.

A couple of points about telecoverters to keep in mind. If you look at Canon's TC's you will notice that they only fit certain lenses, all of them L glass. This isn't a snob issue, but an IQ issue. The best teleconverter in the world on average glass will not provide outstanding IQ in the finished shots.

I comonnly use either my Canon 1.4X or 2X TC on my 300 f2.8L and 400 f2.8L. Top quality TC on top quality glass provides a very useable image. The same can't be said with average quality glass.

Secondly TC's were orignally designed to go on lenses of at least 100mm focal length and were actually designed for prime lenses. This is where you will get your best IQ. My 70-200mm f2.8L is sharp, but my 200mm f2.8L is sharper with out and with a TC. IQ quickly degrades when someone trys to make short glass (under 100mm) longer with a TC.

A TC can be very handy to have as long as you understand it's strengths and weaknesses.
