I shot these off of a Sony a330 with a 75-300mm lens in a f/5.6

This pic was filmed on a macro setting:

What time of day was it? Any filters?

enjoy your sony, i have an a230, not the most popular dslr's.

Was there a reason you were taking this with a 75-300mm? I heard that the longer the focal length, the softer the image gets. Was there a reason you were using such a long lens?

Where did you hear that? Maybe you just need your hearing checked

haha I just read that a lens at a focal length of 250 will be much softer than like 50. Maybe that was just a particular lens. I dunno :p. But still, isn't it a bit inconvenient to be lugging around a 75-300 just for taking pictures of kids?

Cheap lenses do tend to be softest at the longest length. The Canon 55-250mm certainly is. But what do you want for $200.

You obviously do not have kids.... longer focal lengths are key to an ever moving toddler. They do not wait for you to get closer and recompose.

And as for the lens being softer at longer lengths, don't believe everything you read on the internet.

p!nK

Yes because my 75-300mm is the only lens I have that has a Macro built in, I wanted to do some macro test shots as well. And it was pretty heavy to lug around but I brought two of my lenses with me. I found it much better and easier to shoot my son with the 75-300mm then I did with my 18-55mm because I found I was only getting half of my good shots and the rest would be ruined by either blurring or he'd be missing half his parts.

OMG I love this camera, I have nothing but good things to say so far!
dont get me wrong i love my camera as well, i just think the kit lens is a piece. looks like you're already doing better than me with your lens :p i have a wide angle lens on the way it was like $30 on amazon. i used to use my parents canon rebel which i wasnt too fond of.

Which lens kits do you have? Thanks for the complement it makes me feel better knowing that my pics aren't TOTAL crap lol. Why weren't you fond of the Rebel? I was looking at that one too but decided on the sony instead.

I absolutly love my rebel xs. Looking back, I probably would have gone with the xsi, but I have yet to have an issue with it.

Your pics look like the white balance a little off. Especially if you wanted a warmer tone.

All the shots look soft due to shutter speed being too slow, i have lost count the amount of times i have seen this and wrote about it
