A few months back I visited The American Rose Garden and took plenty of pictures. Here are a few. Please let me know what you think of them - overexposed, underexposed, ISO too high, just right . . . anything! Thanks.

if you like this kind of work, i would get a macro lens.

How does a macro lens improve pictures like this? Don't they just have really low apertures?

Not necessarily. Some macros can reproduce 1:1 magnification. A dedicated macro is often a prime which will have better optics than a zoom. The ability to reproduce at life size is also very cool.
It's just another tool in the toolbox.
