Why are you sharpening the noise? Why not noise reduction first and then sharpen?

My reasoning in applying noise reduction last was to attempt to eliminate or soften any unwanted artifacts produced by applying sharpening. But after reading the replies here and a couple of articles on the topic, my approach is changing as we speak.

Exactly. Reduce the artifacts by eliminating the noise and then sharpen the detail you want.
