Right I spent hours last night, trying different techniques but I can't recreate the silhouette effect that "fight the heavens' has done in his shot! (photo number 2).

Can someone give me some advice on how I can acheive a simular effect........ before I go mad!!!

#2 for me too. I think you could definately mae some money from that shot.

to get this effect you need to have a strobe or a flash and have it really close to your subject. that way, if you meter for your subject, anything that the flash does not fall on will be underexposed by 4-5 stops effectivly making it black.

Love both shots. The second is such an elegent shot, very simplistic and incredibly effective. Great work.

I feel #2 would be stronger if it flowed thru the shot more diagonally, to much negative space as is. #1 is just splended but it looks on both that you have some grain, maybe you pushed a curves adjustment or oversharpen slightly?
