I took a pic of my Olympus with my little Richo P&S. Made a separate layer in photoshop, used the pen tool to select out the background then deleted it. Then I basically did what you did, but I made a dup layer of the cam and overlayed it over the pattern, bumped the contrast up to get a little more detail and just tweeked until I liked it.
