The first two are out of focus.

The third one is better. I recommend taking your dog outside in better lighting conditions though.

also if your holding a treat or toy or something which it seems you might be.
i would hold it closer to the camera so it looks like the dog is looking at the camera

Yea I here that.
Have you ever tried waking them from a good nap and shooting them while they are all groggy...
I think that works really well.
You can get some interesting poses when they are al out of it, before they are totaly alert

Last one is better. you should get down to her/his eye level and take some shots. Im pretty sure youll like the results. I used to use an old pentax. I loved it. I need to get a new old one, other lost all its buttons and screws and fell apart in my hands.
