bought some kodak tmax 400 film the other day, mostly because i've heard very good things about it. the only problem is that it doesnt use C-41 processing. There isnt a lab close by that i can take my negatives to, so i usually have to use wal mart or some place like that. will they do black and white chemical photo processing? i'm a noob at the technicalities of film, mostly so i'm just kind of lost...does wal mart process non c-41 film? do you have to specify that it is not a c-41 film?

I'm pretty sure walmart doesn't do real B&W. They do process what I call fake B&W which is the C41 stuff and I think of it as just colour film but it only shows up black and white. I dunno what the real TMAX stuff is called.

Maybe you could send the film away to Kodak?

You probably need to find a professional lab to do it. Rather than give it to someone else to mail out, cut out the middle man, and find a place on the internet to send it to yourself.

I've always heard the developing process for traditional BW film refered to as just "BW process" or "traditional BW process".

Wal-Mart will do it (or at leats used to) but they have to mail it out and it will take about 2 weeks. I agree with Matt, find someone to send it out to yourself.

yeah i'm thinking about it. how much does some basic tank and reel and chemicals cost, like a basic darkroom? i dont have alot to spend, really. i'm going to be taking a photography class at the local community college next semester, so i can use their darkroom then.

Buying brand new. About $35. Check out Freestyle. Been buying their stuff lately. Cheaper on the tanks and reel through ebay probably. I would recommend having your own tanks and reel for your class anyway. The stuff in schools see some heavy use.

This would set you up for quite a few rools of film developing. Maybe more like $40.
