Well i guess i wanted to explain how industrial work places destroy nature. As you can see in the back, there is an industrial warehouse. With Brendan hugging the knocked down tree, i wanted to show how nature is effected, and how it upsets both humans and the environment.

To me, this tree does not look felled but naturally broken off its trunk by the wind because it was old and had become weak. So I would not all by myself have interpreted the picture in the way that you are offering us, less even since the building you refer to is so bright and so far in the background that it doesn't really suggest any industry.
