hey all,

I need some advice on which tripod to purchase - i'm heading on a driving tour of California SF to Vegas and i have persuaded myself that i need a tripod!!
However i need to decide quick - i have a friend who can get me a good deal on one of these
Jessops - Tripods

id like to keep to a budget of around £140

can some one give me some advice on which on to pick please
i have a Canon 500d so would need to work well with that...

thanks all in advance,

what do you think of this one:
Manfrotto 190XPROB Pro Tripod

do you know which head would be good with it?

thanks

Yes.. those legs are a good. Very common among shooters because of their value versus cost. The reason why I didn't select it is that those legs plus a good head will probably put you over the budget you specified. The big difference between the 190XPROB and 190XB will be the ability to place the center column horizontally.

As for head, you need to decide for yourself which style bets suits you...

Ball head - Single action to adjust all three axis. Very quick to reposition.
3 way - All three axis have their own adjustment independent of each other. More precise.
