A pair of venerable rowing boats on the River Nidd at Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, their glowing, varnished wood starting to show the effects of use and weather.

Well shot! You've really captured the 'glow' that varnished wood has.

Thanks Antarctican. I was going to go with a sepia version that I've prepared - it looks timeless - but then decided that the rich wood colour against the dark water was better.

Beautiful exposure. If it were me, I would crop down a little from the top.

Tough call - sepia might work well for that 'old time' feel that ties in with the old wooden boats, but the colour of the wood really stands out for me in the shots you posted. Any chance you can post the sepia version on your website, for comparison?

Better still Antarctican, here's the one I prepared earlier! It's hard to look at in its own right when the other version is there for comparison, but I think it has some good qualities (in a more muted kind of way ).

Hmmm, really like it too. But as you say, once you've seen the colour version....I prefer the colour one.
