Video Conversion Software

I have some AVI files that I would like to convert into something I can watch on my DVD player. There seems to be a lot of software that claims to do this...but I haven't seen any free ones.

Does anybody have any tips for doing this? If I'm going to purchase some software...what should I get?

I downloaded a trial version of ConvertXtoDVD. It works well but to get rid of the watermark, it's $55 for the full version.

I'll try to find one that's cheaper...or free.

I use nero its not too expensive and it does lots of other things too.

I ended up buying some stupid program from Cucusoft. It looked good and the free trial seemed OK. However, it would convert the files and burn them to the DVD...with no options...no menus....no anything. I was not happy about that.

I downloaded the 30 day trial of Nero and it's exactly what I'm looking for. It's a little more than I want to spend...but it does plenty of things.
