Yesterday after work I went to the first annual Folk Festival in town here.
I had contacted the organizer a few months back asking if he could use pictures next year for promotion. He said he sure could.

So I get there and was a little embarassed at first. Most people there had the kind of equipment I had just 6 months ago and I remember what it was like to see someone with equipment that's 100x better than mine (i used to get very discouraged and depressed!).
So I sorta stood back and wasn't very outgoing when positioning myself to get different angles.

I finally started to feel comfortable... in my element really :) and was all over the place, through out the crowd, in front of the stage, on the stage. I find that as long as I keep my eye to my camera I can pretend that there isn't 300 people watching me run around (and 4 news cameras).

    It was great fun!!

Then a local reporter and his photographer showed up.
    HE got ATTENTION.

With two medium formats and a massive collection of lenses everyone, including me, was like holy s#$%.
When everyone started taking pictures of him and his super impressive lens I said 'Why not' and joined in the fun.
The reporter wants me to email him those pictures. hehe

    It was a FANTASTIC experience!!!
I got some awesome shots (will be posted as soon as possible for sure) got to hang out with all levels of photographers and a reporter (might have landed my self a freelance job for the local paper as well).

It sure does pay to get out of the house once in a while

I think a good point that this story highlights is that if you're into selling pics / getting hired to shoot, networking and establishing contacts is probably more important than the actual photo.
