Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I bought my 30d because one day I want to be able to take pictures as my official job.
I know I have a long way to go but my overall aim is to be a photographer of people, in weddings, portraits, I would also like to specialise in pet photography. I am a people person, and have plenty of animal experience (from vounteering at a shelter) so I am facing the right direction.
My main hurdle is mastering the photography part LOL

Where do you want to take your photography? How close are you to achiving it? or are you happy where you are?

I started my own photography business. I got some gear then a website then a better website then a business licence then an even better website then I shot a wedding free then I got some more gear then I got insurance and have a bridal shower on Sunday. As there will be people present with money, I shall hand out plenty business cards and also wear my beige advertising vest.

My dreams - well Africa+long lens+some much better skills!
For me at the moment its enough to aim to be a better photographer at shooting what I want to shoot ( wildlife) and not what others want and that is where I will keep it.
It would be great if I could make money from my hobby - either in addition to work or as full time work, but I am not aiming for it - I don't want to risk losing the fun factor

Practice practice practice (good thing I like practicing!) Get business going, finish website and get it up!

I'm fine with just being a hobbiest (sp?) for now. It would be nice if I could make a little money one day, but that's not really my goal right now.

Honestly I don't think i'd want to be a photographer for my full-time job, though maybe on the side, down the road. I'm sure it's different for everybody but for me, it's a hobby and I want it to stay that way. It's like in grade school and you're forced to read a novel...the fact that it's forced upon you in a certain time frame makes it a lot less enjoyable. If I can do photography on my own time when I want, then I enjoy it more.

My dream is a photo session with Tina Turner.

I don't have any dreams and aspirations. I really just flow through life like water in a stream, going with the path of least resistance. I don't ever ask anything from photography, or myself for that matter. I only shoot to relax, and other than that I've never given it much thought. I thought for a while I might want to be a professional, but it seems to be a rather uphill battle.

But I'm having a moment here... Wait a minute... Maybe I should take more control of my life??? Hmmm, this post is helping me have an epiphany!!! Little did I know replying to your thread would help me have a self-revelation!

LOL one of my mates wheever I show him my new photo's always asks 'So when are you going pro?' and people also ask me that as like a lot of you a can sink some cash into photo gear.

To be honest though, I think I prefer having it as a hobby, shooting items I have no interest in or shooting the same thing over and over could possibly kill it for me. I like to hop in the car on my day off, chuck on some music and drive around until something catches my eye.

I worked in a photo lab for years developing films and when I did this, I did no photography for me in my free time. I also did a course in Web Design and now have no interest in Web Design after doing nothing but that for a year - I think I'm the kind of guy that needs to keep my interests and work seperate.

That said, if it was a job that gave me a lot of freedom and changed a lot like travel photography - I'd do it in an instant - or if someone wants to buy prints I have taken - more than happy. Not keen on Doing one-off jobs like weddings though, I don't like to shoot what people like me to shoot lol

I would love to be a full-time creative artist using photography as my medium. Too bad that isn't a poll option.

Oh God that is pathetic and depressing....

YES! Yes... Life is not just something that happens to you, like the weather. You CAN take control!

I would like to pursue the art form in such a way as to convey a sense of the world around me that provides universal appeal. I have no desire to get into shooting weddings or client portraits which have such a narrow appeal, but would like to make general statements that could be seen in a museum or similar situation. Maybe my work may eventually show up in an art gallery with some price tags on it, maybe not. Not so much as professional in the being paid sense, but as a lifelong obsessive hobby, which I may happen to rake in a few bucks here and there to help off set the costs.

My option isn't up there either.

Much like the theme in the old TV series, the Highlander, "In the end there can be only one." I'd like to be that "one."

I know it'll be rough. And, I'll hire people to do like weddings and stuff.

Okay, Abraxas McLeod... :)

I picked as a 2nd job.

My dream since I was 14 was to be a photographer. I went to a fancy art college and majored in photography.

In my last year of college, I was in a house fire and lost my portfolio and everything related to my art that I had just worked 10 years on (all film, nothing I had done was digitalized)

I dropped out a month later. Got pregnant a month after that.

And here I am 3 years later.. trying to get a business off the ground as a single mom :)

I lost all passion for the medium in those 3 years. Couldn't bear to think about building a portfolio AGAIN. And all my hard work was just gone...

But here I am. I got some renewed determination about 2 months ago, so I started shooting like crazy and built a website and am taking clients for portfolio building.

I want to belive that in the next 5 years, photography will be one of my 2 main incomes that I plan to have :)
