So I am completley new to the site and actually have never submitted any of my photos to be critiqued anywhere ever. I figured I would give it a shot  I am very new to photography and still learning all the basics to get myself into manual mode. I am also very new to photoshop so my pp might not be the best either. Ok so now that I have gotten through my forewarning Here is my first picture. I am hoping by getting some criticism I can figure out the things I need to be more aware of...Well I guess thats what you want critique for anyway right? Ok ok enough rambling..here it is. Before you actually post it, make sure you read the information for each of the forums. You started this out in the "General Critical Analysis".

For having only 3 posts, continuing in this forum could seem to be brutal.

Thanks for posting my pic. And as to the previous poster, I don't mind if it gets brutal. I would just like some opinions on my picture. Personally I love it so even if someone tells me it sucks that ok.;)

I'd like to see much richer shadows, and some tonal variation in the grass.

Will my pp help that at all, or is it all about the lighting when the photo is taken? Also, what about my B&W conversion? I will post this is color too in a minute.....

Post a high res version of the color shot and we'll see what you've got to work with :)

ok, that looks like you had some very difficult light there! The boy backlit which leads to overexposed grass. So there is not much contrast in the grass and it will not be rescued easily.

the composition appears a bit odd to me. but as we all know, this is a personal thing. It looks a bit as if you had no idea if the boy should be on the right side or in the centre. The fact that he is looking to the right does not really help either. To me he would belong to the left half of the frame, maybe even in a square crop or in portrait orientation.
