What happens when you put a $20 lens on a $2000 camera?

Ok, please no hatin'. I know what you're gonna say. But, before you say it, hear me out...

A guy on craigslist was selling a Tamron 19-35mm lens. I have been thinking of getting a wider angle lens, but before I drop a ton of money I wanted to be sure I'd use it. (I borrowed a fisheye lens once and quickly realized that it was fun, but not worth it for my photos at this point.) So, when I saw this on craigslist for $20 I couldn't pass it up. It could be a wide angle test drive, if you will. If it was crap, I could use it on my film camera. If it was complete crap, all I lost was $20.

So, after a cleaning and removal of the UV filter, it's actually not complete crap. Sure, compared to the Nikon 14-24 it's not as fast, not as wide, not as sharp, and it has a decent amount of distortion, but for about 1% of the price, not too bad.

This is a 4-photo panorama at sunset last night. I did some PP in Lightroom, then they were stitched in Photoshop. You be the judge if it was worth $20.

    C&C always welcome!

This is a terrible lens...look at what it did to the sky. It made it all kinds of colors and it is much larger than the land. Go get your $20 back. ;)

If that is the 19-35mm F/2.5-4.5 AF lens for $20, that is a steal. I believe that is the one made by Cosina and at the same time, you can find one made by Phenoix, Vivitar, Promaster, Tokina, Quantaray ....

For what it cost normally, it is still a pretty good lens for the money. I had one with Promaster brand with Canon mount. It is not as sharp and contrasty as my Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 lens, but it is not bad either. And it is a full frame lens.

But for $20 ... IT IS A STEAL!

If I were to kill over today my dear wife would probably sell you my digital Hassy for $20. :lmao:

There a plenty of possible reasons someone would sell cheap but it doesn't mean the gear is complete cr*p.
