Hey guys, Im looking into getting a new monitor and I want the very best monitor on the market for color proofing, I work with a lot of print stuff and want a monitor that will match my pantone charts AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE! Anyone have any suggestions..Opinions?? Thanks!

Many of the cheaper calibration systems, read the monitor output and create a profile which is loaded into the video card. For better results, you should look into a system in which the monitor's look up table can be adjusted directly.
Look into 90 series NEC monitors with the calibration package.

probably not the best, but very very good:

and others from the colour edge series.

Most of the pre-press companies I know here in NYC use that monitor or a similar Eizo. As you probably know, Pantone spot colours can be difficult to soft proof accurately because of their wide gamut - some are outside Adobe RGB - and you need to use Lab, then let PS show which colours are out of gamut and therefore not displaying correctly. There's also the NEC Spectraview Reference 21 LCD2180WG LED and the new HP DreamColor LP2480zx, but they haven't dislodged the Eizo monitors here yet.

Best,
Helen
