What kind of bird?

I was going down the highway, traffic was a bit bad and saw this bird, I'm guessing it's a hawk, but I'm really not 100%, anyone know exactly what it is?

Looks like a red tailed hawk to me, but I certainly am no authority.
 
It does look extremely close to one, I know not all will look a like, so I'm going to agree with you.
 
It is a red shouldered hawk. We have a pair that spend winter in our yard.

A small hawk, the Sharp-shinned Hawk is a regular visitor to bird feeders, where it eats birds, not seed. The male and female show a greater disparity in size than any other American hawk; the female is nearly twice the weight of the male.
