Where are Gitzo tripods and accessories made?

Just bought a used Gitzo tripod on eBay. Arrived and it said "Made in France". Man is it built to last. The newer Gitzo "stuff" I've been seeing says "Made in Italy". Did someone in Italy buy the company?
