They seem a bit too soft for me. I would have liked the 1st one better if it had some sharp focus, which I believe is what you are looking for in a nice closeup like that. Good sharp focus and a nice shallow depth of field. The 2nd doesn't do anything for me though.

Seems like both images have a lot of noise in them. Are these crops from a larger image?

And yes, they were cropped from a larger file. I think part of it maybe related to the original photo was a little underexposed.
