I like the warmth of the first. I like the more natural skin tones of the second, but I'm not sure I like the background - it might be too distracting.

    Opinions? Comments?

The first is definitely the better of the two.

Both of them are too dark.

Both are way, WAY too dark. I like the warmth of the first one better. In the second it looks like the priest(?) is standing next to a flourescent light instead of a fire.

My PS skills and terminology are basically non-existant, but I came up with this:

JenR, that edit is worse than the first. The first photo is a bit dark, but out of the two the first one has a better illumination on the subject.

Thanks for the advice, Jen. I actually like the darkness of the photo - which conveys the idea that this was an evening (sunset) vigil service and that the only light is from the fire. The emphasis isn't the priest, but the fire and the light of the candle. Yes, I could lighten it some so more detail is shown, but I think it would take away from the mood.

With the help of some very nice people on another photography forum, I came up with this:

I like the first photo the best. If you are trying to emphasise the fire, the first one is definately better. The second one looks like the light it coming from something other than the fire.

For grins, I gave them more fleshy face tones but left everything else like you had it.
