Which of these two mask shots is the best?

Hey guys. For my assignment I am to play with light and different ways it works. One of my shots I decided to play with side lighting, and I took two shots of a mask. Could you guys tell me which is better? I know they are very similar .

I like the first one way better, mostly because of composition, which I know is not the focus of your assignment, but it does make studying the light much easier.

I agree with Kerri Rae. IMO, the picture is fighting the format.
Why not crop it in a portrait crop?
I do like the picture itself.
