I've been looking around for a teleconverter and found many confusing opinions and 'facts'.

I have a 400D and want to use the TC with a 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM. I looked through this page http://www.traumflieger.de/objektivtest/telekonverter/telekonverter_check.php
But my German is not good enough to understand all, I can see the images though and it seems like the Kenko Teleplus SHQ 1,5x produces the sharpest images.

So what else is the difference between these TC's;
- Kenko Teleplus SHQ 1,5x (€107)
- Kenko AF 1.4 Teleplus Pro 300 DG Teleconverter (€189)
- Canon Extender EF 1.4x II (€289)

My main concerns are if they will autofocus with previously mentioned lens and what my maximum aperture will be. And ofcourse if anyone has experience with one of them, please let me know what you think of them. ;)

THNX in advance!

absolutely this one :Kenko AF 1.4 Teleplus Pro 300 DG Teleconverter (€189)

for 35 mm (Canon 1Ds mark II and Canon 5D, and all film bodies) it is the only option since the others show some considerable fall-off in sharpness and some extra CA towards the edges.

but also on APS-c format the teleplus pro is slightly better on average.

I can however not speak for your lens, as I do not have it. I use the teleplus pro with a 300mm L f/4 on 35mm sensor.

with that review on the page you have to be careful, since there they in parts compare the Kenko Teleplus SHQ 1,5x against the Kenko AF 2x Teleplus Pro 300 DG .. of course against a 2x the 1.5x wins easily.

They realised this and have a new review where they compare same with same:

I think you lose one stop on a 1.4X teleconverter. Which is livable on that fast of a tele (with IS).

Can someone confirm this http://www.digitalstreet.nl/product...cts_id=3107&osCsid=3h872hal6oujnf2qav7hfro947 is the same as the one in the test on http://www.traumflieger.de/desktop/telekonverter/konvertertest2_teil4.php

I don't look at the images since webshops in Holland always say in their disclaimer that the images could differ from the actual product. However the website adds an extra DG to the name, does this make a difference or is it the same product?

Also I still wonder what the effect for the autofocus is on my lens.

THNX!

At least the one they sell in that shop is the one I have, and I think it is also the one tested. The DG they sell in the shop is the newer version, but that only refers to the coatings I believe. I think there used to be a white version, but mine is black as well.

with an f/2.8 L lens you will be very fine regarding AF! I use it on an f/4 L lens and AF is a bit slower, but not really to cause trouble.

To get good sharpness into the edges you need to stop down then of course, usually one stop helps.

I use the Canon 1.4x with the 70-200 f2.8L IS and it's fantastic. 98-280mm f4L with IS :D I love it.

I've used a Kenco Teleplus and didn't like it. Sharpness was noticably softer. Alex has recommended the pro and that may be a good budget option. I use the Canon with the 300f4L IS too and can't complain.
