Winter at the Edge of the World

[Downtownie]

Quidi Vidi is a small fishing village very near St. John's (it's only over the hill, and is part of the city politically).

It's pronounced Kiddie Viddie if you're from anywhere else in the city. But, if you're from there, as my mother and that half of my family are, it's pronounced Kuh'why-da Vye-da.

First day of Spring. Very much still winter here. Temperature was around freezing all day - but **** it, we went hiking anyway.

We went from Cape Spear to Maddox Cove, both of which are part of the St. John's CMA. It's only 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) but it took 4.5 hours trudging through the snow. :haha:

A few pictures - mix of Canon and mobile.

When we hike, we hate turning around and repeating our steps, so we always take a couple of vehicles, park one at the exit of the trail, and then drive together to the entrance.

So I ditched my car in Maddox Cove...

And, today, we started from Cape Spear...

That little bump on the horizon is Cabot Tower, at the top of Signal Hill. The city is behind there.
