Ducks are going through now but this guy seems to be a bit early for this area.

Very nice! I see these occasionally but find them very hard to get close to.

Thanks, they are my favorite duck. A neighbor with a pond and woods put up boxes and they take them. One year we had to call in a bucket truck to go up and save a female who had gotten her foot stuck in the bark of a tree at the nest hold. Had to be 30 feet up at least but they got her loose and she was fine. Amazing the drop the little ones would have from that height.

We see them from time to time on the lake. Usually as a pair later in the spring

Yes they are. Most of the ducks here will swim or fly away the second I go out on the deck and the house is not that close to the water.
