wood texture please critique

    Okay try this.... Light it from the side not directly on. If you do that you will get some shadows in the cracks which will emphasize the testure in the wood.

    I don't know if this is any better you really need sidelight to show good texture.

    Upon looking at the large version I would have to say that your DOF is too shallow. If your going just for texture, I would have allot more of the wood in focus. Aside from that I would reframe the shot so the wood fills more of the image. If you can, you should still follow some from of composition. Maybe capturing a interesting knot or lines in the wood.
