I would keep the Canon 70-200 f/4, unless the Tamron was the $1500 Tamron SP 70-200 mm f/2.8 DI VC.

no trade if the tamron is non IS. canon is sharper, and has better resale value too.

You have to know more about this deal. First off, trading a Canon EF 70-200 f4L usm lens for a lens with f2.8, you are only gaining 1 f stop. You are considering a trade with a gain of 1 stop, and OK image quality, for a lens with excellent image quality, and Canon "L" quality build. It's like trading California Chrome, for a mule.
