using the 70-300 mm lens, wound all the way out at minimum focussing distance. then cropped like crazy to yield a sort of pseudo macro shot. ISO was left on auto, at 2800, (hence the noise, I suppose) f10, at 1/160
Difficult shots, difficult subjects, difficult settings (usually). You've done very well capturing the damselflies with your equipment. Handheld?
 
Yes handheld, and generally in awkward positions, as these beasties hang about the reeds by the canalbank, where footing is generally not secure.
