    How much Post-Processing?

Hello all! Not sure if this is the right place of this forum to post this, if not, sorry about it... I am still debating myself for this issue: for a (normal) photoshoot, say, of some friends, how much post-processing do you use and what do you change? I like to add a vignette (or negative...

    18% grey and metering

Still have a question: the quote from Mike: "If I want more detail in the shadows, I'll expose for that. If I don't want to blow the highlights, then I'll expose for that." If, say, you're shooting a black car and you want to expose for that, you put your focus point on the black car (say in...

    18% grey and metering

Thanks Jon, for jumping in! I also knew that the grey card (I prefer a white card) was used for white balance. But I don't think the white balance is correct if the exposure is good (and vice versa). If incorrect, please correct me... Thanks!

    18% grey and metering

So... No adjusting for more bright or dark when using grey cards? Why nog? Why yes? Just wanting to learn and understand!;)

    18% grey and metering

Thanks all for these fast answers! Two more questions have arrised when reading your posts: 1. How do you use a grey card to make your exposure. Do you meter that card and you're sure you've got a "good" exposure and then adjust accordingly if the subject is black (then subtrack a stop or two)...

    18% grey and metering

Hello all, Just wanted to be sure about this: if I point the camera (say, in spot metering mode) to a white wall, then it will be metered for 18% grey and will come out as 18% grey if I don't adjust settings. This is right, isn't it? Also, I have read that if you wanted to take some portrait...

Thanks for these fast replies! I have never tried out any two dials SLR yet... Anybody else's comments very appreciate!

    Two dials VS One dial

Hello all! I am slowly thinking of upgrading from my D40x to another body (thinking primarily to d300) for two reasons: built-in autofocus and more buttons. Mostly, buttons to change white balance faster than via menus, and two dials for being able to change aperture rapidly in Manual mode...

    Focus lock button

Hello! I was wondering what the use was of a focus lock (on D300 and above). When pressing that button, is it the same as pressing the shutter halfway? And say you go into the menus and tell the camera only to focus when the focus lock button is pressed, what use would the halfway pressed...

    D-lenses of Nikon

Wew! Very nice picture indeed! Still debating about the 1.4G though, for the speed, less noise, as I have read. And also wishing a d300 (or upgrade of it when it comes?) for more functions...

    D-lenses of Nikon

Thanks andrew99 for this nice answer! I am thinking about the 1.8 or the new 1.4G for somewhere next year maybe...

    D-lenses of Nikon

Yes, but I haven't found any info about how D-lenses work... But this helped!
