This was taken on a Nikon D800E, 500mm lens with 1.4X teleconverter (so, 700mm equivalent), 1/250s, f6.3, ISO400.
I have a Nikon 24-120, and it's a fantastic lens. It's what I use when I'm on holiday and don't want to cart all the gear, and it does a great job. I also have a Nikon 24-70 f2.8, and I tend to agree with @Braineack - it isn't as good as everyone would like to think it is.
I have the Nikon version on my D800E. I have also tried a friend's Tamron 24-70 f2.8. Other than some minor vignetting, the Tamron had a better IQ than the Nikon. However, I didn't test things like bokeh from bright lights at night etc., which is one area where there may be an important...
