    Funny Car Headers

Took this at Summernationals at Raceway Park, Old Bridge Twp. NJ. I wasn't sure whether to crop the crew member or not, but it looks better with him in and I think it gives some frame of reference to the size of the pipes.

    Portrait of a Freighter

Saw this ship heading upriver towards Albany and took a few pictures. I really like the bold colors on this ship and the way it contrasts with the windmill blades it's hauling as cargo. Taken with 70-200 mm lens at 85mm f/2.8 at 1/320 second exposure time (ISO 100).

    Indycar Homestead-Miami Speedway

I took it wide open at 2.8. Earlier in the day I was stopping it down to get longer exposure times, but by the time he went out it was dark enough so I didn't have to. The exposure time was 1/80 and the ISO is 400. The car is going about 210 mph so I didn't need that long of an exposure time...

    Indycar Homestead-Miami Speedway

Taken during qualifications for the Gainsco Indy 300. I took a whole bunch of pictures trying to get a good panning shot and this was one of the better, if not the best, shot. I used my 70-200 at f/2.8 using the panning IS mode. By the time this car went out, it was dark enough so that I...

    Spyder vs Huey?

Decisions, decisions. After realizing that I can either keep burning through ink and paper or I can calibrate my monitor, I've decided to go with the latter. In my price range (sub $200) it looks like there are 2 choices. ColorVision Spyder & Pantone Huey The only difference I can see is...

    Upgrading, need advice and opinions

I got the 17-55 2.8f EFS lens. Actually, 6.5/sec and spot metering would be very useful to me. Just not enough to justify not getting the lens. The 40D (or higher) is still an option, but I'll wait until I get some more money. The rest of my tax return is going towards a 24" iMac and a copy...

    Upgrading, need advice and opinions

I figured as much for the 40D. It is bigger and sexier, but with the battery grip, I at least get the bigger thing fixed (I'm not a big fan of the XTi's size). I wonder how much I'll need to upgrade in order to make it worth it? I don't see me getting a MkIII any time soon. As for the lens, I...

    Snow Covered Pier

The colors came out so muted that no amout of editing could bring them out, so I decided to make it B&W. I'm not really much of a B&W guy, but I think this came out OK.

    Upgrading, need advice and opinions

I've come into some money, so I've decided to spend (some of) it upgrading my photo stuff. What I have now is in my sig. I've decided I have some options on how do upgrade. 1) Upgrade to a 40D. 2) Keep the Xti, but get the battery holder attachment. 2) Upgrade my 18-55 kit lens to a Canon...

    Picture of Abandoned Pier

This is not quite full sized, but it should be big enough.

    Picture of Abandoned Pier

It looks better when bigger when you can really see what the filter did, but I can see why you think it looks out of focus (it isn't). Despite not being much of a Gerhard Richter fan, I kind of like how the filter makes it look a bit unreal.

    wheel standing Van.

Nice shot, there aren't enough motorsport pics on this board. What did you use to take this picture?

Nobody's commented on this pic yet, so I thought I'd bump it up.

    Picture of Abandoned Pier

It's the end of an old pier jutting out into the Hudson River in New Jersey. It's just outside my apartment and I see it a lot, but it looked pretty cool with the rough water and high tide.

    Picture of Abandoned Pier

Took this during a rainstorm at high tide. Fixed it up a bit using GIMP including using the "oilify" filter.

Nope, it's New York. Although the sunset picture is of Jersey City.

    First Post, Comments Wanted

Somewhat new to digital photography and I've been taking phots from my balcony for a few months now. I'm planning to buy a 24" iMac and PS C3 with my tax refund, until then I'm using DPP on my PC laptop. All these photos were taken with my 70-200 lens. I figured a great way to learn was to post...

    Taking Pictures into the Sun

I have a full southern view, which means that as long as the sun is up, I'm facing it (more or less). As for going outside, that's an interesting option and one I'm planning to do, but most of the photography I'm interested in doing is far more opportunistic. If I see an interesting ship on the...

    Taking Pictures into the Sun

As my apartment faces south a lot of my pictures are going to be in that direction. I know that as a general rule you should have the sun at your back, but since I won't, is there any sort of filter I should have to help me reduce glare or other sun-related problems?

Newbie with Long Distance Photography Questions.

Thanks for the advice all. Mike, pollution may hurt picture quality a bit, but I'm more worried about distortion from air currents comming off the water. Some days are clearer than others, but pollution only really seems to hurt my viewing with a pair of 10X20 binoculars when I try to see stuff...
