Hi all,
I recently acquired a Voigtlander Bessa R3M with a 40mm nokton lens.
Unfortunately, I was in an accident barely weeks after purchasing it. The camera fell, landing directly on the lens.
The lens is allegedly beyond repair - the optics are perfectly fine, but it got compressed an the...
I usually use d76 with tri-x. Also not the finest-grain combo, but I don't usually mind grain unless it's all reticulated and messy.
I'd heard that Rodinal promotes a fair amount of grain, but when I saw my negatives I was very happy. It's a nice and even grain, and it's very very sharp so I'm...
It was my first time using it (usually stick to d76), so I didn't play around too much. 1:25, 20C, 7min as it said on the bottle.
I wasn't all that pleased with the contrast, so on my next roll I tried it at ~25C for 7min, and I liked it a lot better.
Why on earth would a Montrealer ever want to go to Toronto :greenpbl:
But tell you what. My company makes all this software for scanners, so once I'm back in the office I'll go look if I don't have access to some better machines than my 10 year-old. I'll re-scan and re-send, see if that doesn't...
Yeah I agree with limr.
And besides making the shot more balanced I think that would also make the boat a little more prominent. The boat is very mid-toney and kind of fades in comparison with the very contrasted posts. So it could use some increased visibility.
But in general I quite like the...
I wouldn't touch it any more :)
I think there's enough to look at that it doesn't need any added pop from pp. Just enough to make sure every element is at its best.
I find it a little bit over-edited but beautiful image nonetheless. Looks like the Shire ;)
What is it that you find difficult about taking farm photos?
Considering the situation I think the brightness is a decent compromise.
If it were any brighter the skyscrapers would be completely blown-out, but if it were any less exposed to get some detail in the sky then you'd lose the much more interesting details in the darker places.
And I agree with...
I think the highlights could be a little brighter, and it would be really cool if the DoF was even shallower.
But other than that I quite like it. Always loved frost :)
You know, I wouldn't hesitate a second, and I wouldn't even care about how much it could cost or how difficult it would be to obtain materials...
But my 35mm camera is my one and only, and sort of a family heirloom piece ^_^
Maybe I could get a MF and only take it to planned shoots though...
I think the exposure is spot-on on the first one.
Nice compositions too.
I'm starting to think of getting into medium format myself, looking at all this... :O
Been printing a lot over the holidays... Thought I'd share.
Tri-X in Rodinal, printed on Ilford RC satin.
And excuse the mediocre scan quality... I don't scan much, and haven't been investing in scanning gear :greenpbl:

I don't know, I think the black and white works...
I think what would have made this better is a lower angle so you would be closer to the ground and see a greater surface of it. I think that would convey the desolate mood of it more if you could see that it's like an entire field of snowy...
As far as street photography goes, I think if you're going to wait to get a studied composition, you're going to miss the opportunity to capture some great moments.
Street shots are often short of perfect but to me that's part of how they convey the chaos, the multi-facetedness and the fast pace...
Why isn't anyone commenting on this?
I for one thing really like the interplay of reflections here. You can almost hear the noisy street and the busy cafe. Good stuff.
