    D7100 firmware update!

Last week I updated the firmware on my D7100 and just ran through some images since the update. The info on the update said that it addressed linear noise issues in video taken with the camera. I was hoping that it might also help with linear noise in still images. I'm happy to report that after...

    Camera Settings

there are so many variables... photo journalists generally say if you want to get the shot, f8 and be present. rule of thumb is going to be to never let your shutter speed drop below your focal length for stationary targets, double your focal length if your subject is moving and to stop motion...

    D7100 Back focus issue

Im also concerned that I will send it in, and they will test focus on stationary targets and everything will be spot on, but fail to address the issue I have with moving targets, and when I get it back, I'll be in the same position. Do they have a way to lab test for moving targets in AF-C do...

    D7100 Back focus issue

Thanks. I havent been able to find more than a couple people online that seem to have a similar issue so I dont think it is a problem with the model itself, just my specific camera. I probably would have just chalked it up to poor AF performance in general if I was able to get a fair amount of...

    D7100 Back focus issue

I am having a terrible time with my d7100. I purchased it back in Feb as a Refurb product from Adorama, and everything seemed fine for a while. I primarily do portraits so It wasnt until my daughter started her sports later in the spring that I discovered an issue with the AF and by that time...

    Attempt at landscape

I lied, Just looked at my data on this one, and realized I was in tight at 200mm, not 55 as I previously stated. This lens is considerably soft at that length and could be adding to the overall softness of the image.

"Sweeping Stance" | I Like Bridges

I felt the same thing about the bottom right Jaca, something about that human presence there, while uninteresting, is distracting. I dont mind the landscape, although portrait would be interesting to see. the movement of the clouds is nice. once thing I noticed that I would fix next time is the...

    PortraitPro

I use it from time to time, and it is a time saver for portrait retouching. As stated before, if the presets are used, it can yield undesired results. Fortunately it allows you to create your own presets that are far less Matel®. I use it as the second phase in my workflow. First I do all color...

    Attempt at landscape

Thanks, I did use noise reduction and perhaps I went a little over board. I underexposed the shot a bit so I could up the SP incase the bird took flight, which created more noise in the image than I wanted when I boosted the shadows and exposure. It was a very overcast morning creating a very...

    Attempt at landscape

I've really been wanting to get better at landscape photography, since my focus is usually on portraiture it is a nice change of pace. I usually find it difficult to frame properly but have been trying to get better. I had a lens on this morning while camping that I usually use only out of...

Having some back focus in AF-C

Interesting. I have not had any issues regardless of lighting unless I'm shooting an approaching subject in AF-C. The light I shot in today was good, mid-day, overcast light. And still no hits on a moving target. Once she stopped... Spot on.

Having some back focus in AF-C

Here was a shot I took today in AF-C on a stationary subject. Focus was spot on as usual. I'm working on figuring out ho to fine tune my AF. Tomorrow is busy so we'll see if I can mess with it some more

    APS-C vs. FF vs. lenses

Did you get a chance to watch the video I linked to? Interested if it sways your opinion at all.

    APS-C vs. FF vs. lenses

wow... were really missing the point here.... I guess I can see why this argument is so perpetual. on a side note, more smaller pixels is not inherently superior to fewer larger pixels, but as I said, I am not touting one over the other, I shoot APS-C but FF is a higher quality sensor in every...

    APS-C vs. FF vs. lenses

well, the D800 is 36mp and the D7200 is 24, so even cropped down you are getting larger pixels at about 24mp density; however the point of my post was to assert that the sensor is a moot point when the lens doesnt match

    APS-C vs. FF vs. lenses

I find the whole Crop vs. Full argument a bit superficial and somewhat humorous that it is so widely and hotly debated. Is full frame better than APS-C.... yes, but really for 2 reasons only 1) Better dynamic range. There is no argument, you will have greater ability to recover shadow and...

Having some back focus in AF-C

Thats what I thought! Ive been hoping it was something attributable to me or the lens. I'm going to borrow a 300mm 2.8 for one of my daughters softball games so if that doesnt prove better ill be upset. I really dont want it to be a body issue

Having some back focus in AF-C

That shot was ISO 250 / f3.2 / 1/800 ( its nice to have 1.8, but I tend not to shoot below 2.8 for sharpness and chroma reasons) Thanks for all the pointers Derrel and Bill. I took the kiddos outside and did some more shots with both my 50mm 1.8G and 35mm 1.8G using d9 and d21 AF and just...

Having some back focus in AF-C

Ive only had my D7100 for a couple months now, and for the most part I'm very happy with it. I am having an issue when using AF-C on an approaching subject (a running toddler) I'm getting about 10% or less success rate and im not sure if it's me, the camera or the lens. My 50mm 1.8G is basically...
