    Two Ducks and a Goose

Here are some shots from a while back that I finally got around to messing with. Comments appreciated. 1. She looks very happy for some reason. Either that or she's yelling at me to get away. 2. You'll see in this and the next couple of pictures that I just kept cutting of the tail of...

    Cincinnati Zoo-Some more pics

Just a few more shots from my recent zoo trip. 1. Really liked the pose on this one. Wish I did a better job avoiding the highlighting on the feathers 2. 3. These guys were a riot. They kept coming up to nibble on my clothing while I was kneeling to take pictures. 4...

    Couple of Owls

Yeah, I liked the bored/sleepy expression from him. I was a bit disappointed with the barn owl shots due to the fact that the shade made for some rather lackluster lighting.

    Couple of Owls

Was at the zoo and some of the keepers were out walking around with some of the animals. Here are a few shots I took. 1. 2. 3. 4.

    How to prevent this?

I see you've already gotten some advise, but I just want to emphasize: putting them in the shade, in that situation, was not the best choice. If you left them out in the sun, the light level on your subject would have been closer to that of the background, giving you better overall exposure...

    Thunder Airshow

Would you mind explaining to me a bit better what you did, because that looks great! My PS skills are still a bit weak. I generally just adjust the white balance, exposure, light curve and saturation of the RAW file and then use the GIMP to apply some selective sharpening.

    Thunder Airshow

Well Thunder Over Louisville was yesterday, had a good time at the airshow. Here are some shots I snapped. All I have to say is shooting planes is really difficult, especially when using a manual focus (I don't get very good results with my autofocus). Also, I really need a bigger lens! 1...

    Hawk in the City

Pfft, don't worry about it, was just straightening it out.

    Hawk in the City

I think your confusing me with Jim, I didn't post the eagle shots, but the above shots of the hawk are mine. The reason I shot at 150mm is that is the highest zoom lens I have, and the reason I used an aperture of 4.5 was to keep the background blurred out (I shoot aperture priority, so I don't...

    Hawk in the City

Well I took a look at your thread, and it seems you have a focusing problem with your images. I tried my hand at attempting to sharpen them, but it actually made them worse, so I won't bother posting them. The lighting and exposure of your pictures is decent, but they're very much out of...

    Hawk in the City

Notice this guy on campus today. Luckily I had my camera with me. This is probably the best out of the bunch. Here's a second that I attempted to save. Here's the original, which needed a lot of work.

    Day at the Zoo

@Kundalini: I don't mind at all. I agree with you that your crop gives the shot a much more pleasant composition. I just didn't want to go overboard with my cropping, though, because I didn't want to sacrifice image quality/sharpness. What I need to do next time is compose my shot better...

    Day at the Zoo

Here's another photo of the monkey. It's my attempt at "saving" the original shot. I'm very interested to know others opinions as to whether they think it is "overdone". Here's the original for comparison. As you can see it needed a lot of help.

    Day at the Zoo

Thanks for the comments. I know the composition of most of these isn't very exciting, which is something I need to work on. I, too, was very disappointed that I cut off the monkey's tail. :( I got another decent shot of him showing his whole tail that I'll throw up after I work with it.

    got a new camera...

Cute picture and I like the composition. The only fault I can find with it is that the bright background distracts from your subject which is in the shadows. If you had used a fill flash to fill in the foreground it would have helped a lot. Your focus is also right on the dog's nose rather...

    It was raining today...

I like the first one. Really sharp and interesting composition.

    Ooo colorful

I like it. It kind of feels like a painting to me(I mean this as a complement).
