What makes these photos look so good?

Thanks for all the replies! I'm glad to know there was significant PP... I was wondering why I couldn't get any of my photos to look remotely similar to that style.;)

What makes these photos look so good?

I found a gallery of photos that I think look really amazing; especially because most are very spontaneous, candid shots. Here's the link: clicky. What is so good about them and how could I get my candid shots to look more like them? I notice the obvious vignetting and a shallow FOV (still...

    Photography Locations

Yes, thank you, ThePup! That helps a lot! So, I guess the answer is no, I don't have the right to licence the photo as Attribution 3.0. Do I have to use a license that does not allow commercial use? I guess the answer should be obvious, but I really want to be able to use a liberal licence. :(

    Photography Locations

Thanks for the advice! Here's a similar dilemma that really confuses me: I've taken a photo of a local farm from the side of the road; it ended up being a good picture and I want to stick it on Flickr. First week with first DSLR

RKW3: Thanks for the tips. I noticed the same thing about the sky, but fixing it seemed to underexpose everything else... Is there any way around this besides HDR? Brad: Done. :)

    First week with first DSLR

Thanks for the tips! Please keep them coming! Yes, the dog is a Black Lab: 13 months old. Love him to death. azruial, I've tried taking pictures from different positions (I think three of the four I posted were from a squatting stance), but I'll have to try taking it a littler...

    First week with first DSLR

I just got my first DSLR this week: a Nikon D40 with a 18-70mm lens. I've had a lot of fun playing around with it, learning how to use all the settings that my previous, old-as-dirt point-and-shoot lacked. I've finally got a handle on how to get decently exposed, reasonably sharp images (well...
