Sunrise on the water (pics added!)

Took this picture this morning with my phone. Played with it using the built in editing stuff on my phone. Came up with these and not really sure which one I prefer.. phone is a Google pixel :) IMG_20171017_065335~2 by Sarah Dillard, on Flickr IMG_20171017_065335~3 by Sarah Dillard, on Flickr

    I'm a traitor...

Hey everyone... So I had a Canon 60D. It is currently unusable and I need to see if I can upgrade or get it fixed or something. In the meantime, I am getting my sister's Nikon D3100. I can't function without a 50mm f1.8 lens. I know nothing about how Nikon stuff works and so far I have found 2...

FS: Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro lens for Canon

Asking $200 OBO. This lens is in perfect condition. No blemishes, nothing wrong on the inside. Works perfectly fine. I never use this lens for anything so it needs to go to a good home where it will get used :) Here is where I originally bought it from. I bought it brand new and am the...

    Question about noise...

This is probably a really stupid question... Almost as stupid as "what settings should I use for this situation?"... Anywho, I'm gonna ask anyway just to confirm my suspicions... If you have a photo with a lot of noise due to high ISO, will the focus seem somewhat soft even if you know for...

    Newborn, CC please

So I had a shoot with a friend's children, nieces, and nephews today and this is one of her nephews. He's 4 weeks old, so a little bit outside the "ideal" newborn age for photos, but his hospital pictures apparently were horrible and they really wanted something... So we did some separate photos...

    RIP beautiful butterfly :(

Well, we had a casualty today :( My daughter has been trying all summer to catch a REAL beautiful butterfly (rather than a moth) and she finally caught one... Unfortunately, it was under the wrong circumstances. My son (her little bother, typo on purpose lol) accidentally ran the butterfly...

    Canon 50d vs 60d

What is the size difference between them? I have shot with a 50d before and not really noticed it being uncomfortable or awkwardly huge. Is the 60d smaller?? That seems a little backwards to me... I was hoping to hold one in hand before making a decision on which one to buy, but none of my...

Upgrading camera body, need help with lenses

So I am going to be upgrading to a 5d from my xsi in a couple months... I am going to have to replace my kit lens with something better and I'd like it to be faster (2.8 or so). I am also considering whether or not I should sell my Sigma telephoto lens since I very rarely use it... Any...

Need help with natural light + reflector

Okay, so this is assignment related again... The assignment that is due next Tuesday for my photography class is to use natural light and a reflector... Well, I went out this evening with my daughter (model) and my best friend's 12 year old daughter as my assistant (she's all I have...) and I...

Two fun little girls - Please CC :)

They are my best friend's kids though But you don't need to be gentle with any CC I can take it! I had to do "group" shots for my portrait photography class this week and the group had to be 2 or more people... So of course almost all my assignments are children, so here's what I got for...

    Color help please? :)

No this isn't a photo I'm saving, but it is one of the many that I'm seeing some "strangeness" with... is it just me or are the colors in this photo weird? Like almost cartoonish looking? I'm on my laptop for the first time in months because I currently don't have a desk chair for my PC. I'm...

I like this one, but not sure if it's "right"...

ISO 400 f/1.8 1/1250 I know the settings are whack and I should have lowered the ISO and possibly even stopped down on the aperture BUT.... Any comments on this? I really liked this picture from this session. I'm just not sure if I cropped it right or not? I only cropped off the top...

Ahhh, beginners forum... How I love you :)

Please tell me you noted the sarcasm in the title?? Sometimes looking in that forum and reading some of the threads just makes me want to gouge my eyes out and forget how to read... Yes, I understand it's beginners, but seriously, an out of focus photo and selective coloring are not the...

I "picked" this one just for you :)

CC if you must :) I am posting this linked from Facebook so the image quality may suck a bit... I haven't uploaded it to Flickr yet :/

    Practicing :)

Not sure what you will want to CC on this. I wasn't going for composition by any means. I was using just a plain clamp light (desk lamp type thing from walmart) with a daylight rated CFL bulb camera left and level with my daughter's face and a little bit in front of her. I am using back button...

    Looking for technical CC

Not really looking for comments on composition, posing, etc. I'm going back to basics as far as exposure and technical things go... Composition and posing not included... So, here's a few shots from my recent engagement session. I would like to know what I could have done different to get...

    Reflector Questions

    1. What size would be a good size? 2. What is the frame thingy called that you put on a reflector that keeps it from being flimsy in the wind? I think my teacher called it a tri something... 3. I don't have an assistant... Should I get a stand? Something long to extend it with? Nothing...

Note to self and all other xsi users...

ISO 400 is the MAX you can go ... The noise is ridiculous even at that point... My next body (probably next year unless the xsi dies on me first) will definitely have better ISO capabilities... That will probably be my priority...

    Decisions...

Based on my other thread, I'm not going to upgrade my body yet. One problem solved. Next problem - what next? I need to work on lighting, but I hope to be able to use only natural light. I have a flash I can use on or off camera as needed, but what else will I need in order to do on...
